Jewish folk music has been a cornerstone of a culture. Its rich melodies have inspired generations of composers. The “strikingly unique” (Cleveland Plain Dealer) Daedalus Quartet—quartet in residence at Columbia University—celebrates the music of one generation: Russian-Jewish composers of the early 1900s. Through the Society for Jewish Folk Music, these daring artists, schooled in Russian classical music, melded tradition and modernity to give Russian Jewish folk music a more contemporary sheen.

The Quartet celebrates both tradition and continuity by performing music of Society members Achron, Krein and Weinberg, and young composers of today who have found their own inspiration in this rich and lasting legacy, including 19-year-old Chason Goldfinger. Joining the Daedalus Quartet are members of SPEAKmusic, a collective of Columbia and Juilliard musicians and composers.
